2019 poll: Hackers trying to preload card readers- INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday revealed that it has uncovered a scheme by hackers attempting to alter card readers ahead of the 2019 elections. INEC said the hackers were collecting Voter Identification Numbers (VINs) with the plan to preload card readers for the elections. The commission also raised the alarm over “new tricks” of vote buying making the rounds. INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this in Abuja at the presentation of the Voter Register for the 2019 general elections to political parties. Yakubu said that the commission had received credible information that some political actors were going around buying up Permanent Voter Cards from voters or financially inducing them to collect the Voter Identification Numbers on their PVCs. “In some instances, telephone numbers and details of bank accounts of voters have been collected. Odey The federal government in 2013 signed an agreement with the Nigerian university system to expend N1.3 trillion on the rehabilitation of our public universities in an effort to raise them to acceptable standards and to be able to produce self-reliant, employable graduates. Former President Goodluck Jonathan paid N200 billion for upgrade works to commence in the 84 public universities across the country. The outstanding balance of N1.1 trillion was to be paid in annual tranches for five years. After that 2013 disbursement, the federal government failed to make the subsequent yearly payment expected in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018; prompting the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to embark on the strike that is currently ongoing. The claim by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that President Muhammadu Buhari’s family is involved in corruption has got the Presidency fuming. According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, the allegation by the PDP is a violation of the peace accord that all political parties and candidates signed ahead of the general elections. The PDP had recently alleged that family members of President Buhari acquired substantial shares in both 9 Mobile and Keystone Bank Plc worth over N1 trillion. But Shehu in a statement said PDP by bringing the family members of Buhari into its campaigns and accusing them of corruption without providing evidence, had breached the terms of the peace agreement. Keystone Bank Limited has denied allegations that President Muhammadu Buhari has a stake in the bank. The bank, on Tuesday, stated, “The fact of the ownership of Keystone Bank by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria was never in doubt. On March 23, 2017, AMCON divested its ownership of Keystone Bank after successful bidding that followed due process. A national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as an honest man unlike the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. This was contained in a statement Tinubu media officer, Tunde Rahman, released on Tuesday in Lagos. He said, “President Buhari is a straight and honest man.
